The Obafemi Awolowo Institute of Government and Public Policy
(OAIPP), Lekki, in Lagos State, has appointed its first
director-general.
He is Professor Adigun Ajao Bolarinwa Agbaje, a
professor of Political Science at the University of Ibadan and former
deputy vice chancellor of that university.
According to a release by
the Institute signed by the chairman of its Board of Trustees, Chief
Adebisi Akande, Prof. Agbaje, a renowned scholar and university
administrator, would drive the Institute’s multi-disciplinary
programmes, aimed at researching issues of democracy and development.
Prof.
Agbaje comes to the job with a string of qualifications, which included
a first class honours degree in political science and a PhD in the same
discipline from the University of Ibadan. He also obtained an MSc
(with distinction) in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos.
He became professor in 1998, after only 14 years as a university
teaching staff, having started his academic career as assistant lecturer
 in 1984.
He will bring his wealth of experience and global
academic connection to the job, as the Institute researches into
political issues like federalism, electoral integrity, political
parties, military intervention, crisis of nationhood and the impact of
religion on democracy, aside from core development issues of health,
education and the economy. It will also seek to establish the nexus
between research and policy/decision making.

What manner of intimidating credentials? How I wish our governments at all levels will learn to always put round pegs in round holes. Best wishes for the new office, Prof.
