Iran mourns 227 killed in earthquakes

Iran on Sunday stepped up relief operations in shattered villages in its northeast after saying rescue operations were completed following a double earthquake which cost 227 lives and injured 1,380 people.
“Search and rescue operations have ended and we are now working to ensure survivors’ needs in terms of shelter and food,” Interior Minister Moustafa Mohammad-Najjar told state television as he announced the casualty toll..............

Mr latin is not dead

Rumour has it that the famous Nigerian actor Mr Latin is dead but he is not dead. The comedian spoke against the backdrop of  reports  on some  social media networks  on his presumed demise.

Amusan, who expressed surprise at the rumour of his own death, said: “I am hale and hearty, please; help tell the whole world that  I am very much alive.
“In fact, I have just finished some bottles of beer with my friends at Ijaiye Junction when I heard the rumour of my death.
“ I wonder why people will take delight in this kind of false story.  I know my God will not kill me now,” he said.
NAN recalled that the false news of his death was widely relayed on Monday on some social media on  the internet.

Asaba—AN unidentified teenage mother has dumped her new-born baby girl in a church, leaving a note behind in which she pleaded with the priest to assume full custody of the child as well as her upkeep as she would return at “the appropriate time” to claim the baby.

CBN to Launch N5000 Notes Which Features Yar’Adua on It

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will very likely release into the market on September 1, 2012, a N5,000 currency, under its on-going currency and payment reform scheme. The currency, according to a very reliable and close source in the apex bank, was considered because of the CBN’s cashless policy, which will be extended to other parts of Nigeria by next year.
The source also disclosed that the N5000 currency is like a guarded secret by the CBN, which it plans to release as a surprise to the market. The N5,000 single note will be the fifth note to be introduced into the economy in 13 years.........hmmmmmm..........

Diesel Tanker Explodes At MTN Premises in Abuja


Tanker catches fire at MTN office in Abuja

Residents of Maitama District in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital city, were thrown into panic today when a truck delivering diesel at the MTN premises caught fire and exploded in the high brow neighborhood.
The area was condoned off by security agents, but police spokesman Frank Mba told SaharaReporters that there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident

Adigun Agbaje Heads Awo Institute

The Obafemi Awolowo Institute of Government and Public Policy (OAIPP), Lekki, in Lagos State, has appointed its first director-general.
He is Professor Adigun Ajao Bolarinwa Agbaje, a professor of Political Science at the University of Ibadan and former deputy vice chancellor of that university.
According to a release by the Institute signed by the chairman of its Board of Trustees, Chief Adebisi Akande, Prof. Agbaje, a renowned scholar and university administrator, would drive the Institute’s multi-disciplinary programmes, aimed at researching issues of democracy and development.
Prof. Agbaje comes to the job with a string of qualifications, which included a first class honours degree in political science and a PhD in the same discipline from the University of Ibadan. He also obtained an MSc (with distinction) in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos. He became professor in 1998, after only 14 years as a university teaching staff, having started his academic career as assistant lecturer in 1984.
He will bring his wealth of experience and global academic connection to the job, as the Institute researches into political issues like federalism, electoral integrity, political parties, military intervention, crisis of nationhood and the impact of religion on democracy, aside from core development issues of health, education and the economy. It will also seek to establish the nexus between research and policy/decision making.

UNIBEN EX BURSAR RECIEVES COFFIN DELIVERY

BARELY 24 hours after two black coffins draped with red strip marks were deposited at the gates of the official residence of the former Bursar of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Dr. May Ifeoma Nwoye , another coffin with an earthenware containing sacrificial items were, on  Friday night, deposited at the door steps to her apartment.
The items in the earthenware include
